Strong Wii U And (of course) 3DS Sales In This Month’s NPD

This month’s Wii U and 3DS sales are looking very good for Nintendo

Wii U – 140,000 units, up 223% from this month last year

3DS – 150,000 units, up 55% from last month

Of course we all know this can be attributed to the release of Mario Kart 8 which sold 470,000 copies this moth bringing its lifetime sales in North America to 885,000 units.

Tomodachi Life also had a surprisingly good month with 175,000 units sold. This is fantastic for a new IP which many didn’t think would appeal to the Western market.

The 3DS sales are always fantastic, so it’s great to see the Wii U coming close to those numbers.

It would be awesome if Mario Kart 8 could help sustain momentum until some more titles come such as Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad and of course Smash Bros.

But we will have to wait and see.

We need not worry about the 3DS, it’s flourishing in Japan and America. With the upcoming Pokemon remakes we’ll see another bunch being sold around the holidays.

A nice point made is that combined hardware sales put Nintendo as the lead for current generation hardware.
